I was taking one hit after another, but each time, I picked myself back up and kept going. In facing the greatest challenges of my life, I learned invaluable lessons that changed everything for me.
Leading up to 2008, I had a solid career in the building materials and construction services industry, spanning 20 years. Then the market crash hit. Almost overnight, I went from making a very comfortable living to nothing. The financial stability I had worked so hard to build crumbled beneath my feet. It was a tough time, both personally and professionally. The stress of unemployment weighed heavily on me, but I tried to stay hopeful, knowing I had a family to support and two kids looking up to me.
Just as I was beginning to find my footing again, another challenge struck. In 2011, I was diagnosed with cancer. Hearing those words from the doctor was like being hit by a freight train. My wife, Juanita, and our kids, Zach and Anastassia, were my ultimate supporters and kept me motivated. They were my reason to keep fighting.
Amidst all of this, I decided to make a career change—after all, what was one more major life change? My wife had asked me what I would do if money were no object, and I said I wanted to get into real estate. My first real estate class was the Saturday after my first chemo treatment. The year was a blur of treatments, learning the sales side of real estate, and trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy for my family.
During this period, I found myself reflecting deeply on my life and what truly mattered. Making it through the market crash and fighting against cancer was grueling, but it also brought a new clarity. I realized that while my career had provided for us, it had also consumed much of my time and energy. As I went through treatments, the support from my family, friends, and even strangers opened my eyes to the importance of community and helping one another. Having money and nice things is great, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the people in your life and the impact you can make on them.
This clarity led me to approach my new career in real estate focused on building relationships and giving back to the community. In real estate, I've been able to help countless families, which is really the ultimate reward. My reputation of integrity and genuine care has enabled me to build a network of clients who trust me not only to help them, but also to recommend me to their friends and family. This has been a huge honor and privilege.
To give back to the community, I started volunteering with the Frederick Soup Kitchen, Mission of Mercy, and Habitat for Humanity. I also have been active with the local sports community, coaching youth ice hockey for the Frederick Freeze and serving on the board of directors for the Maryland Student Hockey League. I have found immense fulfillment in knowing that my efforts are making a tangible difference in my community.
Now, thirteen years after beating cancer, I can look at the challenges I overcame and see how they changed me. I no longer view my career as just a means to make money. Instead, I work to make a difference, to give back to the community that had supported me through my darkest times.
Family and friends have been central to my success over the years and my ability to rise up against the odds. When not working, I enjoy quality time with them, along with golfing, fishing, and staying involved with ice hockey.
When I work with a new client, I treat it as an opportunity to learn about their unique needs and how I can help them. I provide holistic support to my clients, whether they are looking at million-dollar mansions or their first home. My versatility and adaptability are a result of over 40 years of experience in the housing industry. I understand construction, the different markets across Maryland and Pennsylvania, and the many nuances of the buying and selling process. This allows me to assist a diverse clientele, tailoring the experience to fit each client.
With professionalism and a high degree of empathy, I want my clients to feel understood, supported, and satisfied throughout the entire process. With experience in residential, commercial, and new construction, I am fully prepared to help my clients achieve their dreams with my knowledge, advocacy, and invaluable team of professionals who share my commitment to excellence. I thrive in high-pressure situations, working strategically in negotiations to achieve the best outcomes for my clients. This blend of practical skills and experience, coupled with my caring and honest approach, has enabled countless families to achieve their dreams. And I am committed to helping many more families realize their goals in the future!
Sincerely,
